Course Description
Increase your knowledge of recognizing and responding to signs, symptoms, and behaviors of mental health disorders in patients being seen for other physical health problems. Describe primary mental health disorders and effective strategies for integrative care and responding to patients with psychiatric illness while reducing stigma and myths. CEU course for nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and others.
Learning Outcome and Objectives
1) Identify concerns healthcare professionals express about caring for patients with physical health conditions who also exhibit mental disorders.

2) Discuss the etiology of mental illness.

3) Describe stigmatization and myths regarding mental disorders.

4) Summarize primary mental health disorders, including their signs, symptoms, patient behaviors, and treatment modalities.

5) Describe effective strategies for responding to patients with mental disorders.

Judith Swan has been in the healthcare field for over fifty years, beginning as a medic in the U.S. Air Force. As an RN, she has worked in mental health, emergency, orthopedics, hospice, and medical/surgical. She holds an MSN as a family nurse practitioner. Judith's experience in nursing education includes teaching psychiatric, long-term, and dementia nursing care and as director of a nursing assistant college program. She has written ancillary educational materials for nursing textbooks, state curriculum for nursing assistant programs, online health articles, and continuing education courses, including courses for Wild Iris Medical Education since 2012.
