Course Description
Continuing education course discussing types of workplace violence and safety, including bullying, harassment, and abuse. Identify risk factors in the healthcare industry, vertical and lateral violence, safety hazards, and measures for dealing with aggressive persons. 3 contact hours of CEU for nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and EMS personnel.
Learning Outcome and Objectives
1) Describe the various types of workplace violence.

2) Discuss the impacts of workplace violence.

3) Identify risk factors for workplace violence.

4) Summarize how to respond to workplace violence.

5) Describe employer responsibilities in responding to workplace violence.

6) Identify essential components of a workplace violence program and barriers to its implementation.

Mary C. Mitus, MSN, RN, CCAP

Mary Mitus is an advanced practice nurse, having earned her master's degree in 1988 from Grand Valley State University, Michigan. Mitus spent the first ten years of her career in hospital and home care administration. Since then she has focused on holistic health and computer-based learning. She is a certified clinical aromatherapy practitioner, Reiki master, flower essence practitioner, and health coach. Mitus has designed and taught a variety of programs on such subjects as mind/body health and alternatives to smoking. As the owner of Health Everlasting, Mitus provides holistic health assessments, life coaching, aromatherapy, and energy-based therapies. Mitus is the Training Director for Ninth Brain, a healthcare consultant group specializing in compliance and training issues.
