Free CEU course offered for a limited time. Understand and learn ways to mitigate the mental health impacts of a pandemic on nurses, other healthcare professionals, and patients. Review recent pandemics and current coronavirus (COVID-19) issues. This course focuses on preventing and addressing stress and anxiety during this unprecedented crisis and focuses on strategies for mental well-being. UPDATED MARCH 2021

1) Define the term “pandemic.”
2) Describe the psychological effects of a widespread infectious illness on the general population and effects unique to healthcare workers.
3) Summarize strategies to reduce mental health impacts among patients and healthcare workers.
4) Discuss the “duty of care” concept.

Judith Swan, MSN, BSN, ADN
Judith Swan has been in the healthcare field for over forty years, beginning as a medic in the U.S. Air Force. As an RN, she has worked in mental health, emergency, orthopedics, hospice, and medical/surgical. She holds an MSN as a family nurse practitioner. Judith's experience in nursing education includes teaching psychiatric, long-term, and dementia nursing care and as director of a nursing assistant college program. She has written ancillary educational materials for nursing textbooks, state curriculum for nursing assistant programs, online health articles, and continuing education courses, including courses for Wild Iris Medical Education since 2012.
