Prostate Cancer: Current Approaches in Nursing Care and Patient Management
Course Description
Oncology CEU course on prostate cancer patient care and management for nurses and nurse practitioners. Describes risk factors, diagnosis, and management of prostate cancer. Covers cancer stages, treatment options (including post-treatment), prostate surgery, and survival rate.
Learning Outcome and Objectives
1) Review the risk factors and prevalence of prostate cancer.

2) Describe the steps in the prostate cancer diagnostic process.

3) Summarize treatment options for prostate cancer, including benefits, risks, and side effects.

4) Outline the nurse’s role in management and care during treatment.

5) Discuss the nurse’s role in helping manage the long-term sequelae experienced by the prostate cancer patient post-treatment.

Judith Swan has been in the healthcare field for over fifty years, beginning as a medic in the U.S. Air Force. As an RN, she has worked in mental health, emergency, orthopedics, hospice, and medical/surgical. She holds an MSN as a family nurse practitioner. Judith's experience in nursing education includes teaching psychiatric, long-term, and dementia nursing care and as director of a nursing assistant college program.
