Type 2 diabetes continuing education. 7-contact-hour CEU course offering a comprehensive overview of DMT2, including diabetes prevention, causes, symptoms, risk factors, and treatment.
Learning Outcomes and Objectives
1) Describe the incidence, prevalence, costs, and groups at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
2) Review the underlying causes of diabetes.
3) Discuss prevention strategies for persons at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
4) Describe the assessment and screening criteria used to diagnose patients.
5) Review current goals of treatment for persons with type 2 diabetes.
6) Describe the components of a diabetes self-management education plan, including lifestyle interventions and nutrition management.
7) Review medications and metabolic surgery options.
8) Discuss the most common and serious complications associated with type 2 diabetes and their effective treatment interventions.

Christina J. McDaniels, BSN, BA, RN, PCCN
Christina McDaniels has been a licensed RN since 2017. Prior to becoming a nurse, she worked for 10 years as an inpatient and outpatient pharmacy technician. She has bachelors degrees in both English and nursing as well as her Progressive Care Nursing Certification through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. Christina background also includes 4.5 years of staff bedside nursing experience as a direct observation unit, telemetry, and medical-surgical nurse. She has been working full time as a nurse writer since 2022.
Michael Jay Katz, MD, PhD
Michael Jay Katz earned his PhD and MD from Case Western Reserve University. He taught anatomy, physical diagnosis, and scientific writing in the medical school there for more than twenty-five years. He has written more than a dozen books and nearly 100 papers and essays. He has also served as an anatomy and physiology consultant for Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary.
