Short Descriptions

Chapter 1:
Adherence to clinical guidelines is becoming ever more critical in health care today.  This activity is the first of seven chapters. Chapter One provides an overview of Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), as well as discussions on topics relative to epidemiology and pathogenesis of ACS.

Chapter 2:
Initial Evaluation and Management of NSTE-ACE is a discussion of diagnosis of ACS, differential diagnosis, the role of biomarkers in diagnosis and early treatment, risk assessment tools, management of ACS, and importance of decision sharing.

 

Chapter 3:
Early Hospital Care focuses on medical therapies during early hospital care, cholesterol management, appropriate use of anti-ischemic, analgesic, and anticoagulant therapy, identification of appropriate patients for ischemia, comparison of early vs delayed angiography.

 

Chapter 4:
Revascularization identifies appropriate revascularization procedures, description of use criteria and potential complications for PCI, discussion of use of antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy with PCI.

 

Chapter 5:
Late Hospital Care, Hospital Discharge, and Posthospital Discharge Care integrates evidence-based discharge protocols to reduce readmission, creation of post-discharge plan for patients with NSTE-ACS, duration of DAPT in post-discharge ACS patients, non-medical approaches in secondary prevention.

 

Chapter 6:
Special Populations focuses on key considerations when managing ACS in special populations.

 

Chapter 7:
Use of Performance Measures and Registries identifies the gaps in care for NSTE-ACS patients, opportunities for quality care improvements in NSTE-ACS patients, discussion in use of registries in provision of quality care and changes in reimbursements relating to NSTE-ACS.
