Course Description
4-contact-hour diabetes CEU course on type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Identify development, diagnosis, treatment regimens, management, and interventions to avoid acute and chronic complications. Applicable for nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other healthcare professionals.
Learning Outcome and Objectives
1) Describe T1DM.
2) Summarize the impacts of diabetes.
3) Explain the pathogenesis of T1DM.
4) Discuss the diagnostic process for diabetes.
5) Explain management strategies for T1DM.
6) Identify acute and chronic complications and interventions to prevent and treat these complications.

Lisa Cockrell recently completed a PhD in Molecular Pharmacology at Emory University. Her thesis entitled Mechanisms Controlling the Apoptosis Signal-Regulating Kinases (ASK) 1 and 2 Signalosomes focused on elucidating the protein signaling networks important for cancer cells to multiply. While a graduate student she devoted herself to one of her main passions: laboratory bench work. During this time, she also discovered another part of science just as important: communication.
