BBP continuing education course for nursing and other healthcare professionals. Covers the four (4) basic requirements of OSHA's bloodborne pathogens standards and precautions. Includes 2023 CDC recommendations on information on transmission and protection; HBV, HCV, and HIV; personal protective equipment (PPE) and procedures.
1) State the OSHA definition for blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).
2) Summarize the employer requirements of OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
3) Describe the chain of infection as it applies to bloodborne diseases.
4) Identify bloodborne diseases of concern to healthcare providers in the United States.
5) Discuss how Standard Precautions protect against bloodborne pathogens.
6) Discuss types of personal protective equipment, work practices, and engineering controls that reduce risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
7) Summarize employer and employee actions to be taken in case of an occupational exposure to a bloodborne pathogen.
